Abstract
Objective To explore the effects of community occupational therapy on mild cognitive impairment(MCI).Methods A survey of cognition was performed in 418 residents over 60 years of age in a specific community of Nanchang.The 34 patients diagnosed with MCI were randomly divided into two groups,with 17 patients in each group.The treatment group was given community occupational therapy 2 times per week for 6 months(30-40 minutes per time).The control group received no intervention.Mini-Mental State Examination(MMSE),Montreal Cognitive Assessment(MOCA)and Activities of Daily Living Scale(ADL)were used for evaluating cognitive function and intervention efficacy.Results In treatment group,MMSE scores were not changed(P0.05)but MOCA and ADL were improved after treatment for 6 months(P0.05).In control group,MMSE and MOCA scores were decreased but ADL scores were increased after treatment(P0.01).Compared with control group,MMSE,MOCA and ADL scores were significantly improved by community occupational therapy(P0.05 or P0.01).Conclusion The cognitive function decreases with the passage of time in patients with MCI.The community occupational therapy can delay the process of MCI.
