Abstract
Objective To compare the effect of Panax quinquefolium saponin of China(CHPQS) and Canada(CAPQS) on the ability of learning and memory.Methods By using the one-trial step-down and the step-through passive avoidance test,the water maze test,the effect of CHPQS and CAPQS on the ability of learning and memory were compared.Results Our results demonstrated that both CHPQS((20 mg)·kg~(-1))and CAPQS((20 mg)·kg~(-1))significantly improved scopolamine-induced acquisition impairment,and both CHPQS((20 mg)·kg~(-1))and CAPQS((20 mg)·kg~(-1))protected the mice from the acute cerebral ischemia.Moreover,both of them significantly improved the memory deficits induced by cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury.Conclusions These results suggest that CAPQS and CHPQS have the similar effect on protection and restoration of the ability of learning and memory.It suggests that CHPQS can be used instead of CAPQS and our nation's source can be used more widely.
