Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

We study the topological nature of single layers of correlated honeycomb materials $\ensuremath{\alpha}\text{\ensuremath{-}}{\mathrm{RuCl}}_{3}$ and ${A}_{2}{\mathrm{IrO}}_{3}$ $(A=\text{Li},\text{Na})$ with strong spin-orbit coupling. An effective tight-binding model based on first principles band structure calculations including Hubbard and spin-orbit coupling is derived. Two pairs of propagating edge modes centered at the zone center and zone boundary are found when their one-dimensional boundary forms a zigzag shape, while the bulk has a gap with trivial time-reversal ${Z}_{2}$ invariants. The effects of strong electronic interactions and doping on the edge modes in these Mott insulators are discussed. We further suggest a heterostructure of $\ensuremath{\alpha}\text{\ensuremath{-}}{\mathrm{RuCl}}_{3}/{\mathrm{IrCl}}_{3}$ to search for the proposed topological Mott phase.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
