Cet article, symétriquement tourné vers les professionnels de la santé qui agissent en contexte amérindien, aborde les questions suivantes : que se passe-t-il lorsque des professionnels de santé sont directement confrontés à des conceptions différentes du corps, de la santé et de la maladie ? Que se passe-t-il lorsque les pratiques de santé basculent dans un processus de « traduction » de leurs propres conceptions de ce qu'est la santé ? De quelle façon ces professionnels sont-ils « affectés » par l'expérience de l'altérité radicale ? Désireux de réfléchir à ces questions, le texte rapporte les récits d'un médecin et d'une infirmière, en y soulignant les « motifs » constants, qui nous parlent de quelque chose en rapport avec les limitations, limites et processus de traduction. Le scénario décrit incitera peut-être à nuancer à la fois la vision d'une biomédecine homogène et celle de professionnels de la santé exclusivement liés au pouvoir – systématiquement impliqués dans des relations réifiées et réificatrices.
