Ce numero revient sur un theme certes recurrent, mais si important, celui des libertes academiques en Afrique. Dans la plupart des pays de ce continent, les libertes academiques sont menacees surtout par des autorites politiques qui redoutent cette quete incessante de verite, inherente a toute activite de recherche scientifique. Involontairement ou non, les scientifiques peuvent necessairement, avec leurs decouvertes, inventions ou innovations, mettre en cause des discours sociopolitiques dominants, voire des detenteurs de savoirs ou de technologies entres en obsolescence. C’est la raison pour laquelle les scientifiques, comme enonce par l’UNESCO, « devraient pouvoir exercer leurs fonctions sans subir de discrimination d’aucune sorte ni avoir a craindre de mesures restrictives ou repressives de la part de l’Etat ou de toute autre source ». Mais commencons par ce constat : les restrictions et interdits exerces sur les libertes academiques ne sont plus le monopole du continent africain ou des pays dits « en voie de developpement » ; meme dans les pays occidentaux, d’eminents scientifiques sont desormais sanctionnes ou contraints de renoncer a certaines decouvertes scientifiques qui mettent en cause des interets commerciaux.
