Denne masteroppgaven i idrettsvitenskap er en kvalitativ studie av friluftsliv i Norge, og\noutdoor adventure education [OAE] i Canada, som studiefag på høgskoler og universitet.\nOppgavens intensjon er å belyse hva friluftslivsfaget «er» eller «blir» som studiefag i høgere\nutdanning. Det har vært gjort lite forskning på hva og hvordan friluftslivsundervisningen på\nhøgskolenivå blir i praksis. Den teoretiske tilnærmingen har tatt utgangspunkt i\nfriluftslivsutdanningens ideologiske og historiske røtter, hvor veiledning, naturmøtet og\nsituasjonsorientert læring er sentrale trekk; og i den Canadiske OAE tradisjonens tilnærming,\nhvor personlig- og mellommenneskelig utvikling, risiko, og allmenndannelse står sentralt; og i\nprofesjonsteori, hvor profesjonalitet, skjønn og identitet står sentralt. Mot den teoretiske\nbakgrunn har jeg valgt en åpen og eksplorerende problemstilling for å undersøke, forstå og\nfortolke hva studiefaget friluftsliv og OAE «er» og «blir» i praksis. Problemstillingen er:\nHvordan blir friluftsliv og Outdoor Adventure Education som studiefag konkretisert gjennom\nundervisning i praktiske emner ved ulike høgskoler og universitet, og hvordan reflekterer\nrespektive lærere over sin yrkesutøvelse?\nProsjektet ble gjennomført som feltarbeid og deltakende observasjon på tre\nundervisningsopplegg om ferdsel i kano på/ved vann og vassdrag – to i Norge og ett i Canada,\nog kvalitative intervju av tre erfarne friluftslivsveiledere/-undervisere.
