Le programme de residence en psychiatrie a bien evolue depuis la parution en 2001 de l’enonce de principes de l’Association des psychiatres du Canada (APC) sur le sujet de la formation medicale durant la residence1. Plus precisement, le College royal des medecins et chirurgiens du Canada (CRMCC) a publie un document sur les exigences de la formation specialisee en 2007 d’abord, puis une version actualisee en 2009, qui precise les exigences de la premiere annee de la formation postdoctorale2. Selon ces exigences, « cette annee de formation doit permettre d’acquerir une experience generale de la medecine, pertinente a la psychiatrie » (italiques ajoutes)2, p 1. Le contenu de la formation des 12 premiers mois de la residence varie toujours a un certain degre dans les 17 universites canadiennes, une souplesse que permettent les exigences de la formation specialisee etablies par le CRMCC (voir le tableau 1).
