Cet article essaie de comprendre, à travers une analyse philosophique des conditions de la pensée créative, comment les apprentissages peuvent constituer une éducation à la citoyenneté – fondamentale pour l’entrée en démocratie des futurs citoyens que sont les élèves. Pour cela, il s’agit de dégager les valeurs ontologiques, épistémologiques et éthiques de la créativité dans le processus même de l’apprentissage. C’est seulement en comprenant ces enjeux cruciaux que l’on s’autorisera à rendre familières les activités créatives aux élèves, qui ne seront pas étonnés lorsque, ayant obtenu la majorité civile, on attendra d’eux qu’ils se comportent comme des individus majeurs – au sens philosophique, c’est-à-dire capables d’inventer par eux-mêmes les formes de vie collective qui seront les leurs. En nous appuyant notamment sur l’enseignement de la philosophie obligatoire dans le secondaire, en France, nous verrons aussi à quel point la question de l’évaluation est centrale dans une réflexion sur le développement de la créativité chez les élèves : comment l’évaluation peut-elle favoriser ou empêcher la créativité ? Comment apprécier la valeur de ce qui s’invente ?
