Cet article traite du thème de la modification corporelle d’un genre « extrême » en se focalisant sur la mouvance du body hacking, ou « piratage du corps ». Ancrée dans l’ère du tout technologique, elle s’illustre par l’émergence d’un modèle organique rationnel socialement de plus en plus étendu utilisant des matériaux artificiels développés par soi-même. On en trouve des exemples avec l’insertion de puces électroniques sous-cutanées, d’implants magnétiques, d’implants génitaux vibrants, ou encore avec le remplacement de l’épiderme par des plaques en titane. En augmentant la capacité sensorielle, ces « pirates du corps » proposent de nouvelles émotions qui participent au développement d’un rapport inédit à l’organisme. Parallèlement, ils ont pour objectif de déconstruire la normativité corporelle en s’émancipant de tout type de contrôle lié à la transformation corporelle. Nous proposons d’identifier le traitement que ces acteurs réservent au corps : quelle lecture en font-ils ? Et en conséquence, quel organisme construisent-ils et projettent-ils, et pour quel homme ? À travers un travail ethnographique international relatant l’ensemble de ces nouvelles pratiques liées aux modifications corporelles et à ses augmentations, cette étude identifie la mutation de l’organisme opérant au sein de nos sociétés. Elle met en évidence les nouvelles interactions que l’homme entretient avec la technique, non plus pour compenser un handicap, mais pour offrir des fonctions supplémentaires.
