Abstract
Ao confrontar-me com o honroso convite da Direccao da Escola para, nesta oportunidade, dizer algumas palavras, deparei-me com a duvida da escolha do tema. Tratando-se, porem, de uma ocasiao em que se alia a formalizacao da abertura do Ano Lectivo com a entrega de Diplomas aos recem-licenciados, obviamente me ocorreu fazer algumas consideracoes sobre a sociedade actual, a formacao em Ser vico Social e a insercao inicial dos Assistentes Sociais no mercado de trabalho, e isto tambem porque: - as politicas sociais portuguesas se confrontam, actualmente, com a implementacao de uma medida (o Rendimento Minimo Garantido) que exige um consideravel acrescimo de intervencao social qualificada, tanto quantitativa quanto qualitativamente; - o nosso Instituto atravessa uma fase de reflexao sobre o actual Piano de Estudos; -a insercao profissional dos recem-licenciados em Servico Social deixou, nos ultimos anos, de se fazer quase automaticamente e passou a apresentar lapsos de tempo que, embora de muito menor expressao do que aqueles que atingem outros licenciados da area das ciencias sociais, merece ja alguma preocupacao por parte das Escolas. Tentarei, pois, deixar aqui algumas consideracoes que nos permitam cruzar estas tres realidades.
