Cet article s’appuie sur une étude anthropologique de type qualitative réalisée entre 2013 et 2015 dans les universités montréalaises auprès du personnel des Services aux étudiants autochtones et des étudiants des Premières Nations. L’objectif de la recherche était de comprendre les modalités d’inclusion des réalités autochtones dans un environnement universitaire très majoritairement non-autochtone. L’enquête a fait émerger deux éléments principaux. D’une part, il existe une distinction majeure entre les politiques d’inclusion des perspectives autochtones des universités anglophones et francophones de Montréal. Cela s’explique par une situation politique, géographique et linguistique propre au contexte québécois. D’autre part, les attentes exprimées dans le cadre de l’enquête concernent prioritairement la mise en place d’aménagements extra-curriculaires pour créer un environnement favorable et une plus grande sensibilité culturelle des Québécois. La transformation radicale des curriculums et des méthodes d’enseignement, qui est au cœur de la réflexion des intellectuels autochtones et des revendications portées à l’international par l’ONU, apparait donc comme un enjeu réel mais secondaire. Cela conduit à une discussion plus nuancée autour de la notion d’autochtonisation curriculaire.
