Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

PURPOSE: Our purpose was to assess the effectiveness of exercise training and flaxseed lignan supplementation for improving blood lipid profiles in older adults. METHODS: Seventy older adults (43 females, 27 males, age = 62.2±7.0 yr, Body Mass Index = 28.3±4.8 kg/m2, %body fat = 33±7%) participated in a brisk walking program (30–60 min/d, 6 d/wk) and were randomized to receive 500 mg/d of the flaxseed lignan secoisolaricresinol diglucoside (SDG) complex or placebo over 2 months. Blood samples were analyzed for glucose, total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, and total cholesterol to HDL ratio at baseline and 2 months. RESULTS: Participants taking SDG significantly decreased their triglyceride levels (1.25±0.62 to 1.12±0.50mmol/L) compared to placebo (1.62±1.04 to 1.90 ± 1.64 mmol/L) (p <0.01). Males on SDG decreased their total cholesterol to HDL ratio (4.16±0.94 to 3.89±0.99) compared to all other groups combined (3.92±1.07 to 4.13±1.41) (p <0.05). CONCLUSION: Two months of SDG supplementation is effective for decreasing triglyceride levels. Supplementation with SDG appears to be effective for lowering total cholesterol to HDL ratio in men, but not women.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
