espanolA finales del siglo XIX irrumpen en el panorama literario espanol autores que tratan de reflejar fielmente el habla de las zonas en que viven. La maxima expresion de esta tendencia en Extremadura es atribuida a Jose Maria Gabriel y Galan, autor de Extremenas (1903), un poemario que rescata la figura del olvidado y sufrido labrador extremeno. En este articulo proponemos un analisis de los dialectalismos foneticos recurrentes en la obra de Gabriel y Galan a partir de “El embargo”, uno de los poemas mas reconocidos del escritor. El estudio de este texto servira para ofrecer una vision del arquetipo de las hablas extremenas en la literatura. Como se vera, gran parte de los fenomenos recogidos por el poeta no son dialectalismos, sino vulgarismos extendidos por otros dominios hispanicos cuya confluencia permite recrear una variedad linguistica proxima a la de los protagonistas de la intrahistoria del pueblo extremeno que Gabriel y Galan define en su obra. Jose Maria Gabriel y Galan is sometimes regarded as the most significant example of in such respect in Extremadura. He is the author of Extremenas (1903), a set of poems which bring to the fore the figure of the forgotten and long-suffering Extremenian ploughman. In this research paper a study of phonetic dialectalisms will be carried out in Gabriel y Galan’s ‘El embargo’, one of his best known poems. The analysis will offer a comprehensive vision of the archetype for Extremenian varieties in literature. As will be discussed, many of the features dealt with by the poet are not dialectalisms as such, but vulgarisms found throughout Spain, whose conjunction makes it possible to reproduce that linguistic variety spoken by the people defined by Gabriel y Galan in his work.
