S'il peut faire sourire un Français, le titre en forme de comptine ne témoigne pas uniquement de la plasticité de la langue allemande, mais aussi d'une réflexion approfondie sur l'idée de « confession » à partir du concept de « confessionnalisation ».Ce dernier privilégie, au sein des trois grandes confessions chrétiennes, les points communs qui assurent la cohésion de chacune d'entre elles.Enté sur un schème plus vaste -la modernisation conçue comme une dialectique entre différenciation sociale et avènement d'un vecteur d'unité et de discipline, l'État moderne -, il suppose une hiérarchie entre les autoroutes qu'empruntent les bolides et les départementales où musardent les tacots.Le présent ouvrage, au contraire, se penche sur les chemins de traverse, non par goût frondeur d'une histoire bucolique, mais par conviction qu'un paysage ne peut se réduire à un itinéraire.Ce n'est pas en effet la distinction classique (et légitime) entre une confessionnalisation « par en-haut » et de plus complexes interactions « par en-bas » qui domine ici le débat (sauf N. GROCHOWINA sur la Frise), mais la notion de confession elle-même, revisitée par de jeunes chercheurs.
