Abstract
L’animation socioculturelle peut se définir comme un processus de diffusion de la capacité d’ex- périence sensible, d’expression, de sens critique, d’initiative et de créativité des populations. Selon les situations et les outils d’intervention disponibles, qui varient avec le niveau de développement des sociétés, ce processus met l’accent sur la dimension sociale (habilitation permettant l’ac- tion) ou culturelle (participation à la construction des normes). Ce texte dresse le portrait dusystème d’animation sociocultu- relle tel qu’il se construit depuis une trentaine d’années à partir des fondements philosophiques et institutionnels de l’éducation populaire et de son ancrage dans des problématiques territoria- les spécifiques. Il aborde ensuite les principaux défis auxquels se confrontent actuellement les chercheurs et les professionnels de l’animation, dont l’impossi- ble neutralité des pratiques, leur nécessaire élargissement à l’aménagement d’environnements créateurs et l’acquisition de l’expertise requise. La dernière partie souligne l’importance de poursuivre le travail de consoli- dation des réseaux continentaux et internationaux en animation.
