Le Bas-Saint-Laurent est l’une des six grandes regions peripheriques du Quebec. Bien que la restructuration de son economie ait favorise son repositionnement sur la scene provinciale au cours des dernieres annees, cette region se distingue toujours par la persistance de disparites socio-economiques, lesquelles ont tendance a s’amplifier en fonction de la reduction de la taille demographique des localites. A l’instar a ce que nous observons a l’echelle de la province, plusieurs acteurs regionaux ont mise sur l’economie sociale dans le but de donner un second souffle a son economie. Les entreprises d’economie sociale du Bas-Saint-Laurent favorisent-elles un developpement territorial progressiste ? L’objectif de cet article consiste a evaluer la contribution sociale et economique des entreprises d’economie sociale au developpement du Bas-Saint-Laurent. Effectuee sous l’angle des representations sociales des gestionnaires de 129 entreprises, l’analyse est realisee en distinguant certaines caracteristiques geographiques et socio-economiques entre les milieux ruraux et urbains. Il en resulte une typologie cartographique des localites du Bas-Saint-Laurent en fonction de la contribution des entreprises d’economie sociale au developpement social et economique de leur milieu.
