Abstract
In die saak R v Bedard ((2002) 158 CCC (3d) 216 (Ontario CA)), wat onlangs voor 'n appelhof van die deelstaat Ontario in Kanada gedien het, het die volgende feitestel na vore getree: Die beskuldigde, B, is skuldig bevind op 13 klagtes van seksuele aanranding van pasiente wat plaasgevind het oor 'n tydperk van 10 jaar tussen 1989 en 1999 terwyl hy as gelisensieerde chiropraktisyn gepraktiseer het. In geval van die meeste slagoffers (pasiente) het die seksuele aanranding by meer as een geleentheid plaasgevind. Elf van die slagoffers was volwassenes terwyl die ander twee in die middel van hulle tienerjare was. Die slagoffers het B vir behandeling vir 'n verskeidenheid kwale of toestande besoek, waaronder pynverligting of -uitskakeling vir ongelukverwante beserings en vir behandeling van pyn wat ondervind is deur die pasient na 'n doodgeboorte. Afgesien van liggaamlike probleme het die meeste slagoffers ook angs en emosionele ongerief ondervind.
