Abstract
Le présent mémoire entreprend d'évaluer la mesure selon laquelle la religiosité d'Hérodote exerça une influence concrète sur la rédaction des Histoires.Selon notre hypothèse initiale, il s'avère possible de démontrer que le cadre de pensée d'Hérodote se trouvait marqué à la fois par une profonde religiosité et par un aspect scientifique repésentatif de celui des penseurs de son époque.L'un de nos objectifs principaux consistera à formuler une critique rigoureuse d'une tendance interprétative s'étant développée au cours des dernières décennies et s'appliquant en quelque sorte à réhabiliter Hérodote aux yeux d'un lectorat moderne en cherchant à amplifier cet aspect strictement scientifique au détriment notamment des éléments religieux qui structurent pourtant son oeuvre.Parmi les principaux thèmes abordés, mentionnons: le milieu intellectuel en lequel évolua Hérodote, sa conception de l'histoire en regard de notre concept moderne de mythologie, sa croyance en différents types d'événements miraculeux, la distinction qu'il effectue entre la notion d'affaires humaines et celle d'affaires divines, l'utilisation qu'il fait des sources, l'importance qu'il accorde aux attentes de son auditoire et finalement la théorie de la causalité historique qu'il met en place.
