Abstract
Este trabajo presenta los resultados de une investigacion en hombres que se inscriben en programas tradicionalmente compuesto en su mayoria por mujeres, en la Universidad de Quebec en Abitibi-Temiscamingue (UQAT). El objetivo que guio la investigacion fue de identificar las motivaciones, los obstaculos y los puntos convergencia en estudiantes hombres que estudian en Trabajo Social y Enfermeria. Los testimonios de los participantes (n = 19), se recogieron a traves de entrevistas individuales semi-dirigidas. Este material fue sometido a un analisis de contenido de Collazi (1978). Los resultados muestran que las motivaciones de los varones por estudiar estas disciplinas son variadas y multifactoriales. Se pudo, ademas, identificar que las razones de la escasa participacion de los hombres en estos dos programas serian por una influencia historica genero en las profesiones de ayuda, como es el caso del Trabajo Social y de la Enfermeria, y por una falta de empatia emocional que caracterizaria a los hombres. Finalmente los puntos de convergencia de los hombres en terminos del desarrollo de una identidad profesional con su futura profesion universitaria, se manifiestan en forma diferente en la poblacion que participo al estudio. Estos resultados reflejan la necesidad de estudiar en profundidad la realidad de los varones en programas compuestos mayoritariamente por mujeres a partir de una vision respetuosa de genero.
