Abstract
A história está no centro da literatura e da identidade dos acadianos, uma história extremamente rica, de consonâncias míticas e bíblicas: um povo inocente é forçado a dispersar-se pelo continente americano e pela Europa, de 1755 a 1762, condenado ao exílio e à errância, antes de poder reconquistar penosamente seu direito à existência. Entretanto, a força emotiva e a coerência dessa narrativa constituem, para os acadianos, uma faca de dois gumes: numerosos autores, ao difundi-la, confinaram a Acádia e seu povo numa visão romântica petrificada. Por isso, alguns romancistas acadianos das últimas décadas, como Antonine Maillet, Claude LeBouthillier, Louis Haché e Edmond Landry tiveram que usar de astúcias com a própria história, de modo a subtraí-la de uma tradição estreitamente nacionalista e repensá-la dentro do contexto mais amplo dos contatos entre as culturas. Résumé: L’histoire est au cœur de la littérature et de l’identité des Acadiens, une histoire d’autant plus prégnante qu’elle a des consonnances mythiques et bibliques: un peuple innocent est dispersé de force à travers les Amériques et l’Europe de 1755 à 1762, condamné à l’exil et à l’errance avant de pouvoir reconquérir péniblement son droit à l’existence. La force émotive et la cohérence de ce récit constituent cependant pour les Acadiens une arme à double tranchant: de nombreux auteurs ont assuré la diffusion de ce récit, mais ce faisant ils ont enfermé l’Acadie et les Acadiens dans une vision romantique figée. Aussi les romanciers acadiens des dernières décennies – Antonine Maillet, Claude LeBouthillier, Louis Haché et Edmond Landry – ont-ils dû ruser avec leur histoire pour la soustraire à une tradition étroitement nationaliste et la repenser dans le contexte élargi des contacts entre les cultures.Mots-clés: rôle de l’histoire dans la littérature acadienne; récit acadien; Antonine Maillet; Claude LeBouthillier; Louis Haché; Edmond Landry; contacts interculturels. Abstract: History is at the heart of Acadia’s identity and literature. This phenomenon is strenghthened by the mythological and biblical undertones of Acadian history, that of a people sent into exile, dispersed along the coast of the Anglo-American colonies and Europe from 1755 to 1762. The emotional power and narrative coherence of this drama are responsible for its popularity as well as the enduring romantic stereotype of traditional Acadia.
