IL Y A DE CES LIVRES QU'ON ATTEND DEPUIS TOUJOURS.Il faut dire que certains livres se font particulièrement désirer.C'est le cas du dernier essai de François Paré intitulé Le fantasme d'Escanaba, avec lequel j'entretiens une relation particulière.Si l'auteur n'a plus besoin de présentation, l'historique de la parution de l'essai mérite une courte digression.En décembre 2004, le professeur Paré est invité par la Chaire pour le développement de la recherche sur la culture d'expression française en Amérique du Nord (CEFAN) de l'Université Laval.Dans le cadre des grandes conférences publiques, le chercheur propose alors de parler du Fantasme d'Escabana, une métaphore pour expliquer le rêve des Canadiens français de déployer la nation par delà le continent dès la fin du XIX e siècle.Le texte devait originalement paraître en 2005 pendant le congrès de l'ACFAS tenu à McGill.À la suite d'une rencontre avec Guy Champagne, l'éditeur de Nota Bene, j'apprends finalement que la sortie du livre se fera à l'automne 2005.Dans Jean Marc Dalpé, ouvrier d'un dire, des actes de colloque sous la direction de Stéphanie Nutting et François Paré, on annonce que le livre est paru en 2006.Ne pouvant obtenir une copie, j'écris à monsieur Champagne qui me dit que le livre sortira sous peu.Finalement après d'autres retards, Le fantasme d'Escanaba paraît en novembre 2007.Entre temps, j'avais obtenu un poste à l'Université Laval, ce qui fait en sorte que j'ai été le premier lecteur externe à ouvrir le livre.Fin de la digression.
