Abstract
Voici un nouveau volume dans la collection du IEMAN (Institut zur Interdisziplinären Erforschung des Mittelalters und seines Nachwirkens) de l'Université de Paderborn.Il est issu d'un cycle de trois rencontres organisées entre juillet 2004 et novembre 2005 afin d'évaluer les apports du concept de « paysage monastique » à la compréhension de ce qu'ont été les établissements religieux.En introduction, H.-D. HEIMANN et J. SCHNEIDER présentent cette démarche collective étroitement liée aux programmes menés, sous l'égide de l'UNESCO, sur les « paysages culturels », présentation que l'on complètera, sur le plan épistémologique, par les remarques de Marlene Nikolay-Panter inspirées des travaux menés depuis 1920 dans le cadre de l'Institut für geschichtliche Landeskunde der Rheinlande de l'Université de Bonn.Se succèdent ensuite onze contributions essentiellement issues d'un workshop tenu à Potsdam en novembre 2005.Chacune est accompagnée de deux résumés, l'un en allemand, l'autre en polonais ; peut-être aurait-il été plus judicieux d'en prévoir un en anglais, en sus ou à la place du premier.En outre, quelques cartes auraient été les bienvenues, car elle sont très rares dans ce livre.Certaines contributions ont essayé de donner un peu de consistance à un concept dont la signification, il faut l'avouer, n'est pas clairement perceptible ; d'autres se rapprochent davantage d'une mise au point historique, en forme de status questionis, sur les établissements religieux d'un territoire déterminé.
