El presente articulo representa uno de pocos acercamientos tenidos hasta el momento en cuanto a la mejor compresion del periodo de la Republica en El Salvador mediante estudios arqueologicos. En este apartado, el autor propone un periodo Republicano dividido en tres fases: Republica-federal, Republicano-temprano y Republicano-moderno. Estas fases se hacen presentes en contextos arqueologicos en areas urbanas en este pais. La arqueologia practicada en edificios historicos en esta region siempre encontrara un vinculo con la historia de los terremotos y otros eventos naturales. De este modo, aqui se analiza el fenomeno natural como elemento detonante de transformacion fisica de las urbes salvadorenas a lo largo de los ultimos dos siglos. Esta transformacion fisica estara tambien condicionada al desarrollo economico, social y politico de cada epoca. El presente trabajo toma como base algunos resultados obtenidos en actividades de rescate y salvamento arqueologico realizados en tres iglesias historicas de El Salvador durante la ultima decada. Los resultados han permitido reconocer contextos y materiales arqueologicos que, al articularse con otros estudios, permiten establecer un marco teorico para el discernimiento de este periodo a traves de la arqueologia. Este apartado resume a su vez casi 15 anos de experiencia en la practica de la arqueologia historica llevadas a cabo en zonas urbanas de este pais.
