Cet article présente les résultats de la deuxième phase d’un projet de recherche visant à développer une interface bilingue pour le repérage d’images numériques. Le principal objectif de cette phase de l’étude était d’examiner le rôle et l’utilité des fonctionnalités disponibles pour le processus de repérage d’images, du point de vue de chercher d’images. Un questionnaire bilingue (français et anglais) comportant des questions ouvertes et fermées a été élaboré et administré à deux groupes de participants : 20 répondants de langue française et 20 de langue française anglaise. Les données quantitatives recueillies ont été analysées selon des méthodes statistiques, tandis que le contenu des questions ouvertes a codé pour identifier les thèmes émergents. Cette étude montre que le processus de repérage d’images présente encore des difficultés et des frustrations pour le chercheur d’image. Les conclusions établissent que la recherche par mot-clé reste la principale méthode de repérage, comparativement au repérage par catégories prédéfinies ou par à l’aide d’une image ou d’un dessin. Finalement, les résultats de cette étude exploratoire mettent en relief plusieurs fonctionnalités comme une partie intégrante du processus de repérage d’images et révèlent l’importance d’être en mesure de repérer des images avec des mots extraits de plusieurs langues.
