?Que factores del ambito domestico obstaculizan la promocion y el mantenimiento exitosos de las dietas vegetarianas y veganas? En este articulo buscamos explorar los obstaculos domesticos a la conversion a las dietas vegetariana y vegana para complementar la investigacion sociologica existente en cuanto al vegetarianismo, veganismo y la defensa de animales. Para ello, hemos llevado a cabo una revision de bibliografia sociologica sobre alimentos y vida domestica, incluyendo bibliografia de la sociologia de la familia, sociologia de genero, sociologia de la comida y otras areas. Los obstaculos que encontramos incluyen reacciones familiares al cambio de la dieta, el papel de la madre en proveer alimentos a los hijos, la subordinacion de las preferencias alimentarias de la mujer, el suministro de alimentos por parte de la mujer como forma de poder, la dinamica en la eleccion de comida entre parejas, el papel de la carne en la jerarquia domestica y la raza y clase social. Para isso, fizemos uma revisao de bibliografia sociologica sobre alimentos e vida domestica, incluindo bibliografia da sociologia da familia, sociologia de genero, sociologia da comida e outras areas. Os obstaculos que encontramos, incluem reacoes de familiares a mudanca da dieta, o papel da mae em prover alimentos aos filhos, a subordinacao das preferencias alimentares da mulher, o fornecimento de alimentos por parte da mulher como forma de poder, a dinâmica na escolha da comida entre casais, o papel da carne na hierarquia domestica e a raca e classe social. In this paper, we seek to explore the domestic roadblocks to vegetarian and vegan diet conversion in order to complement existing sociological research on vegetarianism, veganism, and animal advocacy. To accomplish this, we engaged in a review of sociological literature on food and domestic life, including literature from sociology of the family, sociology of gender, the sociology of food, and other areas. The barriers we found include family reactions to dietary change, mothers’ roles in providing food for young children, the subordination of women’s food preferences, women’s food provisioning as a form of power, the dynamics of food choice between spouses and significant others, the role of meat in the domestic hierarchy of meals, and race and social class.
