Cet article – au croisement des etudes culturelles et d’approches communicationnelles – interroge la diversite des pratiques philanthropiques qui coexistent dans l’univers du club de hockey Canadien de Montreal, la plus importante equipe de sport professionnel au Quebec. A travers la mise en commun de pratiques variees, l’objectif est de comprendre et detailler les manieres dont se declinent les activites philanthropiques de ce club de hockey. A partir d’une analyse mediatique, cet article propose trois configurations par lesquelles l’activite philanthropique se realise : des collectes de fonds spectaculaires, la creation de fondations et la figure de l’athlete philanthrope. L’article questionne egalement leurs transformations subies au fil du temps pour saisir en quoi ces pratiques sont modelees par les nouvelles formes de celebrite, de mediatisation du don ainsi que par l’integration des discours de responsabilite sociale d’entreprise au sein des clubs de sport professionnel. En offrant une incursion au sein d’une culture philanthropique particulierement visible, diversifiee et normalisee, cet article souhaite ainsi contribuer aux reflexions sur les pratiques philanthropiques issues d’un milieu hautement populaire et mediatise.
