Abstract
Neste artigo abordaremos como o discurso do género foi construído pela psicologia social, isto é, como o próprio conceito e as teorias explicativas que o envolvem foram construindo um significado que hoje está associado ao próprio estudo do género, tendo presente a influência das diferentes teorias feministas. O feminismo, especialmente determinadas teorias e perspectivas contemporâneas permitiu o equacionar de sérias críticas à ciência tradicional, moderna e positivista, críticas essas que se fazem sentir em várias disciplinas. Apresentam-se os diferentes programas de pesquisa sobre o género na psicologia social de influência feminista: a psicologia empiricista feminista, e o pósempiricismo feminista que coloca em causa a própria pesquisa de diferenças sexuais acentuando a construção social do género. Na psicologia social e nos estudos sobre o género estas novas perspectivas permitem um novo posicionamento e o pensar em novas possibilidades para a transformação de uma disciplina “reguladora e autoritária” para uma nova forma de acção local e contextualizada, nunca androcêntrica e universal.
