Abstract

Formate degradation product was extracted in monoethanolamine (MEA), N-methyldiethanolamine (MDEA), 2-amino-2-methylpropan-1-ol (AMP) and their blend by OH-aliquat336 in 2-ethyl-1-hexanol. The results showed that the extracted formate decreased with an increase of amine concentration due to the increase of interaction of the amine with formate. The blended amine (3 M MEA+1 M MDEA+1 M AMP) had higher extraction efficiency than single 5 M MEA. Extraction efficiency was increased with an increase of temperature. In the presence of CO2 loading, the extraction efficiency of formate decreased due to competitive reactions between carbamate (R1R2NCOO−), bicarbonate (HCO3−) and carbonate (CO32−) with the extractant.
