Abstract
Suite à la demande de la réforme faite par Vatican II, un nouveau Rituel intitulé « Ordo Paenitentiae » fut publié en 1974. Bien qu’il ait réouvert une fenêtre sur une pratique de l’Église antique, longue de huit siècles, en mettant en oeuvre la célébration communautaire du sacrement de réconciliation avec confession et absolution collectives, ce Rituel romain se tenait encore entre deux théologies, à savoir la théologie de la réconciliation et celle de la pénitence. Plusieurs pays n’ont fait que le traduire, mais les pays francophones ont voulu adapter ce texte en ajoutant certains éléments propres. Dans notre article, en suivant le cadre théorique que propose J.W. O’Malley, nous examinons les notes doctrinales et pastorales de ce Rituel en sa version française, que nous comparons avec la version latine pour repérer les changements au niveau de la forme littéraire, par rapport, par exemple, au concile de Trente. Nous considérons que le Rituel francophone, en se situant dans le mouvement innové par Vatican II, a privilégié la théologie de la réconciliation qui insiste sur la démarche communautaire de ceux qui désirent recevoir le sacrement du pardon.
