Notre recherche questionne la constitution de huit projets culturels et participatifs liés à l’événement Mons 2015, Capitale européenne de la Culture. Durant deux ans, l’équipe de Mons 2015 a accompagné des habitants, des artistes professionnels, amateurs et des associations durant la fabrication de ces projets. D’août 2013 à décembre 2015, nous avons mené une observation ethnographique filmée (McDonald, 2005 ; Lallier, 2009 ; Vásquez, 2013) qui nous a permis de récolter 200 heures de rushs vidéos de réunions de conception en groupe. Durant ces réunions, nous avons souligné l’omniprésence de la communication entre les participants au sein du processus. Nous avons capté un en train de se faire dans les échanges qui ont remis les projets en jeu au fil du temps. Notre étude propose ainsi d’explorer ce processus participatif sous l’angle des approches considérant la communication comme constitutive de l’organisation telle que développée notamment par l’École de Montréal (Taylor, Cooren, Giroux & Robinchaud, 1996 ; Taylor & Van Every, 2000 ; Robichaud, Giroux & Taylor, 2004) en mettant en lumière cet univers d’interactions « plus ou moins facilitatrices ou inhibitrices » (Brechet, Schieb-Bienfait & Desreumaux, 2009: 42). Nous questionnons la force constitutive des interactions afin de les étudier comme « des processus communicationnels organisants à travers lesquels le sens est simultanément ouvert (désordonné) et fermé (ordonné) » (Vásquez, Schoeneborn & Sergi, 2015 : 2). Cela nous amène à interroger le double niveau de constitution qu’entrainent les échanges des participants : (1) la constitution des projets via les interactions, (2) ce qui se constitue à travers ces interactions dans le cadre de projets culturels et participatifs (nous centrerons particulièrement notre propos sur les productions immatérielles telles que l’apprentissage au sein du groupe).
