Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

The process of developing a CD-ROM for parents of pre-school children with undiagnosed or newly diagnosed developmental disabilities will be presented. It was designed to provide parents with practical knowledge, resources, skills and strategies to help them give their child the best care possible. It examines common challenges that result from developmental disabilities as well as personal coping strategies for parents and their children. The stimulus came from experiences of parents and Glenrose Clinicians in identifying a need for this resource. The CD-ROM is part of the Alberta Caregiver College. This is a virtual college offering education for those who provide ongoing care to others following an injury, illness or disability. The goal is to improve the quality of life for both caregiver and client/family member, and to improve the caregivers' ability and confidence to provide care over the long term. A team of subject matter experts from developmental paediatrics, community health, home care, early intervention and pediatric rehabilitation, analyzed the needs of the target audience and identified learning outcomes. A Request for Proposal (RFP) process was used to select the vendor to complete the design and technical work. Health professional experts were selected to write the content. A project team worked closely with the vendor to further determine the best methods of communicating the learning outcomes to the target audience. Parents also provided valuable feedback on the CD-ROM development. The outcome is an interactive CD-ROM, which uses sound, graphics, text, video, pictures and internet resource links to deliver the information. Topics include what to do if concerned about your child's development; warning signs of problems in development; parenting approaches to promote development; managing behaviour; advocating for your child; caring for yourself and your family; and resources. The target audience of the CD-ROM includes families and professionals such as paediatricians, family physicians, community/public health nurses, early intervention workers, early education teachers, therapists and others who work with families of preschool children and provide initial screening, support strategy and anticipatory guidance. In some cases the CD-ROM can best be used by families assisted by a facilitator to guide the process. Developing a CD-ROM requires that both monetary and knowledgeable resources be committed to ensure the project is of high quality and useful. The information in this CD-ROM will have wide use to assist individual families and as an educational tool for professionals.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
