Abstract

Searches for double beta decay of $^{134}\mathrm{Xe}$ were performed with EXO-200, a single-phase liquid xenon detector designed to search for neutrinoless double beta decay of $^{136}\mathrm{Xe}$. Using an exposure of $29.6\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{kg}\ifmmode\cdot\else\textperiodcentered\fi{}\mathrm{yr}$, the lower limits of ${\mathrm{T}}_{1/2}^{2\ensuremath{\nu}\ensuremath{\beta}\ensuremath{\beta}}>8.7\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{20}\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{yr}$ and ${\mathrm{T}}_{1/2}^{0\ensuremath{\nu}\ensuremath{\beta}\ensuremath{\beta}}>1.1\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{23}\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{yr}$ at 90% confidence level were derived, with corresponding half-life sensitivities of $1.2\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{21}\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{yr}$ and $1.9\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{23}\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{yr}$. These limits exceed those in the literature for $^{134}\mathrm{Xe}$, improving by factors of nearly $1{0}^{5}$ and 2 for the two antineutrino and neutrinoless modes, respectively.
