Abstract
Cet article propose de cheminer dans l’œuvre de Jacques Brault pour observer trois modalités différentes du réglage entre textes à traduire et versions traduites. Le recueil des Poèmes des quatre côtés déjoue la représentation de la traduction comme transfert interlinguistique pour la reconfigurer comme une double opération de désorientation et d’appropriation. La question du rapport à autrui, sous-jacente et non résolue, mène l’expérimentation dans une impasse. Quelques années plus tard, le recueil Transfiguration rejoue différemment le dispositif traductionnel et pose frontalement l’enjeu d’un « je » qui est aussi un « tu ». Cet agencement permet-il de proposer une lecture de l’énigmatique Agonie, qui se déroule comme une exégèse narrative à partir d’un poème traduit ? Ce dernier texte nous ramènera au point de départ : le Québec, mais pour mieux le déplacer : en poésie. Car dans le régime poétique de Brault, la traduction opère avant tout comme une redistribution des possibles, un frayage d’espaces interstitiels.
