Abstract
Le théologien dominicain Claude Geffré nous a quittés le 9 février 2017 à l'âge de 91 ans.Avec lui disparaît un des grands théologiens français de l'après-concile.Témoin des déplacements théologiques opérés à Vatican II, il fut l'artisan prudent et audacieux du passage d'une méthode dogmatique à une méthode herméneutique dans la réflexion sur la foi.La théologie ne se contente plus de justifier le dogme au moyen de l'Écriture, elle devient une interprétation, un déchiffrage du sens de la Parole de Dieu en rapport avec l'expérience historique d'aujourd'hui.La multiplicité des traditions religieuses constituant un élément de cette expérience, Claude Geffré a développé, à partir de 1985, une théologie du pluralisme religieux qui constitue toujours une référence incontournable pour comprendre les enjeux de la rencontre des grandes religions.Né à Niort (Deux-Sèvres, France) le 23 janvier 1926, Claude Geffré entre au noviciat des dominicains de la Province de France en 1948.Il fait ses études de philosophie et de théologie aux Facultés dominicaines du Saulchoir de 1949 à 1955.Il est ordonné prêtre le 12 juillet 1953.Après deux années à l'Angelicum (Rome), il obtient son doctorat en théologie en 1957.De ses années d'étude au Saulchoir, il reconnaît l'influence des pères Louis-Bertrand Geiger en philosophie et Hyacinthe Dondaine en théologie.Il a aussi suivi l'enseignement des pères Yves-Marie Congar en ecclésiologie et Henri Féret en histoire de l'Église.Bien qu'il n'ait jamais été l'élève du Père Marie-Dominique
