Dans les pays francophones, la maitrise de l’orthographe constitue un vecteur de reussite scolaire et sociale. Dans cet ouvrage, l’auteure a eu pour objectifs de verifier la contribution de facteurs linguistiques et motivationnels dans le rendement en orthographe lexicale chez les eleves quebecois francophones a la fin du primaire ainsi que de comparer les eleves selon leur sexe et leur niveau orthographique. L’echantillon est compose de 242 eleves qui ont ete soumis a diverses prises de mesure, notamment en orthographe et en motivation. Les resultats montrent que les eleves mobilisent des connaissances phonologiques, lexicales et morphologiques lorsqu’ils orthographient. Sur le plan motivationnel, les analyses effectuees indiquent que l’evaluation cognitive de l’entourage social faite par les eleves est liee a leur perception de competence orthographique, et cette perception est liee en retour a leur motivation intrinseque. Enfin,les analyses de variance effectuees indiquent un effet du niveau orthographique et du sexe des eleves sur plusieurs variables.
