Abstract
Au cours des derniers mois, plusieurs événements historiques ont retenu notre attention : Un nouveau gouvernement canadien qui met l’accent sur la santé en promettant d’améliorer l’accès aux soins à domicile et aux services de santé mentale, de mettre sur pied un plan national d’assurance-médicaments et d’élaborer une stratégie pour un vieillissement en santé. De nouvelles dispositions législatives fédérales qui accordent aux Canadiens le droit d’opter pour un suicide médicalement assisté, bien que des inquiétudes persistent à l’égard de notre système de soins palliatifs, lequel serait inadéquat et marginaliserait davantage certaines personnes déjà vulnérables. Un regain d’attention envers les recommandations faites par la Commission de vérité et réconciliation du Canada (2015). Celles-ci soulignent les disparités sociales et en matière de santé, étroitement interreliées, qui touchent les peuples autochtones, et les facteurs qui ont mené à leur vulnérabilité, tels la montée du racisme, la colonisation et la pauvreté, pour en nommer quelques-uns. Une rencontre entre les ministres de la Santé pour envisager et élaborer un plan permettant d’abolir les structures politiques traditionnelles qui freinent la santé optimale des Canadiens.
