Extrait de l’introduction. « Les difficultes qu’eprouvent certains eleves a apprendre les mathematiques a l’ecole mettent chaque fois en peril le projet d’enseignement dont elle est porteuse. Faire appel a une instance specialisee (corps professionnel, classes, institutions) pour la prise en charge de certains eleves revient a reconnaitre qu’il existe non seulement des difficultes d’apprentissage, mais aussi des difficultes a enseigner. […] […] nous chercherons, dans un premier temps, a rappeler l’ambiguite du terme apprendre – puisqu’on peut tout aussi bien dire que quelqu’un apprend quelque chose (pour lui) ou que quelqu’un apprend quelque chose a quelqu’un d’autre – et en tirer parti en postulant que dans le processus d’enseignement aussi bien l’enseignant que l’enseigne apprennent quelque chose de leurs interactions. Cette consideration nous permettra, dans un second temps, de reunir difficultes d’enseignement et d’apprentissage au sein de l’echange didactique et de les utiliser pour nous interroger non pas sur les sujets (les eleves, leurs difficultes propres, leurs manques ou handicaps, ainsi que les enseignants, leurs rapports personnels aux mathematiques), mais sur les savoirs qu’on voudrait enseigner et faire apprendre, les signes et les milieux de tâches mathematiques sous lesquels on les presente aux eleves. Dans un troisieme temps, nous evoquerons un seminaire d’initiation a la recherche, tel qu’il est pratique depuis une dizaine d’annees pour la formation des enseignants specialises au canton de Vaud, ou nous avons d’ores et deja pu mettre en œuvre nos conceptions theoriques. »
