Abstract
A protese overdenture e uma protese dentomucossuportada ou implantomucossuportada, que tradicionalmente e confeccionada sobre dois pilares na mandibula e quatro pilares na maxila, independente do sistema de retencao entre os pilares e a protese. A overdenture sustentada por implantes e uma opcao de reabilitacao oral em pacientes totalmente desdentados, com alto indice de satisfacao pelo paciente, de facil execucao, de custo baixo e atende os anseios de pacientes portadores de proteses totais. Fato e que a overdenture apresenta superioridade em relacao a protese total. Esta revisao sistematizada buscou esclarecer sobre a viabilidade clinica, atraves dos trabalhos ate entao feitos, sobre a adocao de overdenture mandibular retida por implante unico em sinfise. O Consenso de McGill estabelece que o numero de implantes a ser utilizado na mandibula sao dois implantes, bilateralmente, em area de canino, independentemente do sistema de retencao (o´ring, magnetico e bola). Porem, estudos com apenas 1 implante em regiao de sinfise tem se demonstrado viavel, menos traumatico cirurgicamente, custo mais baixo do que o metodo tradicional, com bons resultados funcionais, biomecânico e economico para o usuario de overdenture. Overdenture com implante unico apresenta uma alternativa viavel clinicamente, tanto para funcao oral e tanto economicamente, mas e necessario estudos longitudinais com um maior numero de pacientes a fim de saber se os vies das pesquisas se manifestaram em uma pesquisa com maior numero de pacientes que serao acompanhados.
