L'auteur est titulaire d'un baccalaureat en pedagogie de l'Universite Laval, d'un baccalaureat en mathematiques de l'Universite du Quebec a Trois-Rivieres et d'une maitrise en mathematiques de l'Univesrite de Sherbrooke.Il a enseigne les mathematiques au Cegep de Levis-Lauzon et il a publie de nombreux manuels de mathematiques. Il est actuellement redacteur en chef de la revue Accromath qui vise a donner une image plus vivante, plus humaine et plus riche de ce que sont les mathematiques, et une meilleure connaissance des carrieres auxquelles elles donnent acces. La solution aux difficultes d'apprentissage n'est pas d'augmenter les applications dans la derniere partie du cours. Il faut modifier en amont plutot qu'en aval et presenter des applications des le debut de l’apprentissage. Pour la plupart des etudiants, c’est grâce aux applications que les notions prennent du sens. Dans le present ouvrage, le calcul integral est presente selon une approche de construction de la connaissance. Les exemples et les exercices sont concus pour que l’etudiant applique, dans des situations concretes, les notions theoriques a mesure qu’elles sont developpees. Les notes historiques sont egalement concues pour montrer les difficultes que les mathematiciens ont rencontrees dans le developpement du calcul integral ainsi que l'imagination et la creativite dont ils ont fait preuve.
