Abstract
Cet article vise, à travers une étude de cas, à questionner l’approche de l’éducation à l’environnement. Il cherche à identifier et à comprendre les difficultés de positionnements des enseignants, souvent pris entre « moralisme » et « relativisme ». Les difficultés de conception et de mise en place de ces enseignements pourtant préconisés par les Instructions officielles, dans le cadre des disciplines scolaires n’expliquent pas tout. En particulier, la tentation d’esquiver les débats et controverses en classe semble renvoyer, dans certains cas, à une vision positiviste des sciences ou alors à une certaine conception de ce que devrait être un « savoir élémentaire ». Enfin, le cadre de la laïcité scolaire peut induire chez l’enseignant une attitude de neutralité stricte, peu compatible avec une éducation à la citoyenneté. Ainsi, comment permettre aux enseignants de s’engager, avec une relative sérénité dans la mise au travail des problèmes environnementaux tout en se prémunissant à la fois de l’illusion de neutralité et de la tentation d’endoctriner ?
