Ce texte propose, d’une part, de preciser en quoi les images proposees dans la serie Les aventuriers de l’art moderne ne sont pas des images d’archives au sens archivistique et, d’autre part, de comprendre en quoi elles peuvent malgre tout fonctionner comme telles. Il explore la piste du rapport des archives a l’imaginaire puisque ce qu’ont en commun archives et imaginaire reside dans la possibilite de rendre present ce qui est absent. En partant d’une lecture critique de l’authenticite, comme caractere essentiel des archives, d’une part, de leur capacite a faire image d’autre part, le texte propose une reflexion sur la maniere dont les archives sont susceptibles de nourrir ou de creer un imaginaire qui serait, avec la psychanalyse, pense comme registre de l’image par laquelle le sujet se construit dans la relation a l’autre. Dans cette perspectives, le texte conclut que les archives seraient un des lieux depuis lequel nous pouvons faire communaute grâce aux images qu’elles nous permettent de construire du fait de leurs caracteres lacunaire et fragmentaire. Ce que l’archiviste construit par le geste de mise en archives serait alors moins un reflet, qui serait l’image elle-meme, qu’un miroir, c’est-a-dire la possibilite pour l’autre de reconnaitre sa propre image.
