Uno de los grandes problemas que enfrentan los valles geograficos y, en general, las cuencas de los rios, es la continua deforestacion y el cambio de sus coberturas vegetales para el establecimiento de monocultivos y ganaderia extensiva. Para cuantificar estos grados de perturbacion, uno de los grupos utilizados como bioindicadores son los escarabajos coprofagos, importantes en la evaluacion de la intervencion humana y el monitoreo de la biodiversidad. Se muestrearon dos localidades de la vertiente hidrografica del rio Dagua (cordillera occidental, Valle del Cauca), la primera ubicada en el municipio de Restrepo y la segunda en el municipio de Dagua. Se realizaron tres transectos de 300 metros lineales, con 10 trampas de caida cebadas en las diferentes coberturas vegetales en cada localidad (Bosque Seco Tropical, Herbazal Natural Abierto xerofilo, Bosque Natural en Restrepo; Matorral Abierto xerofilo, Bosque arbustivo sub xerofilo y Bosque de Quebrada seca en Dagua). Se colectaron 1372 individuos, pertenecientes a siete generos y 13 especies (segunda lista taxonomica para la zona) con una completitud de muestreo entre 70 y 100%. La mayor diversidad se presento en Restrepo, dentro de las areas boscosas, aunque los dos municipios compartieron el 30% de las especies. En cuanto a los perfiles de diversidad, el bosque en Dagua y la canada seca en Restrepo fueron las mas diversas respectivamente. Los bosques de ambas localidades sustentan especies propias de interior de bosque, pero las riquezas y abundancias encontradas sugieren, dentro de la misma cuenca, que la diversidad es drasticamente afectada por los eventos de transformacion del paisaje, que varian fuertemente entre coberturas muestreadas
