Esse trabalho de tese teve por objetivo propor um modelo que possibilite a identificacao de niveis de desenvolvimento do pensamento algebrico revelado por estudantes ao resolverem problemas de partilha. Nossa pesquisa foi realizada em duas etapas. Na primeira construimos uma versao a priori do modelo apos a analise dos resultados da pesquisa de Oliveira e Câmara (2011) e de Santos Junior (2013) e das respostas de 342 alunos do 6o ano do ensino fundamental, sendo 195 alunos brasileiros de tres escolas da regiao metropolitana do Recife e 147 alunos canadenses de quatro escolas da provincia do Quebec a um questionario composto por seis problemas de partilha. Na segunda etapa buscamos validar nosso modelo. Para isso, reaplicamos o questionario utilizado na primeira etapa a 343 alunos dos anos finais do ensino fundamental de duas escolas da cidade do Recife, sendo 72 do 6o ano, 83 do 7o ano, 93 do 8o ano e 95 do 9o ano e realizamos uma entrevista de explicitacao com oito alunos, sendo dois de cada nivel do modelo. Ao final chegamos a proposicao de um modelo de niveis de pensamento algebrico que vai desde o nivel 0, caracterizado pela ausencia de pensamento algebrico, passando por um nivel incipiente de pensamento algebrico (nivel 1), por um nivel intermediario (nivel 2) e por um nivel consolidado de pensamento algebrico (nivel 3). Propomos, tambem, para cada nivel, a partir do nivel 1, tres subniveis, que denominamos de subniveis A, B e C.
