Introducao: A Ginastica Ritmica (GR) e um esporte de alta performance que exige de suas atletas movimentos de grandes amplitudes articulares, forca e uma boa coordenacao motora postural. Alem disso, em virtude da especificidade do gesto esportivo as ginastas sao expostas constantemente a posturas e esforcos repetitivos, repercutindo em lesoes musculoesqueleticas e consequentemente em dor, a qual pode afetar negativamente o equilibrio corporal. Objetivo: caracterizar a dor musculoesqueletica em atletas de elite de GR. Secundariamente comparar o equilibrio postural estatico das ginastas com controles nao atletas, bem como correlacionar o indice de dor com o equilibrio nas atletas de GR. Metodos: participaram da pesquisa 50 jovens do sexo feminino, 25 ginastas compondo o grupo atleta (GA) e 25 nao atletas compondo o grupo controle (GC). As voluntarias foram submetidas a avaliacao da percepcao dolorosa utilizando a versao brasileira do questionario de dor McGill (Br-MPQ), e do equilibrio postural, atraves da estabilometria. O estudo foi aprovado pelo comite de etica (CAAE 61990516.4.0000.5546) Resultados: o GA manifestou percepcao dolorosa significativamente maior (p<0,001); a dor nas atletas apresentou caracteristicas sensorial e avaliativa; as regioes de maior queixa dolorosa foram a articulacao do quadril (52%) seguida do tornozelo-pe (44%). Na comparacao intergrupos do equilibrio postural estatico foi observado maior deslocamento do COP no GA (16,513 mm² ± 1,48) em relacao ao GC (10,212 mm² ± 1,14). Nas correlacoes do equilibrio com os dominios da dor, foi observada apenas uma correlacao significativa entre a dor avaliativa e a VmCOP na direcao mediolateral (r = 0,414; p = 0,040). Conclusao: As atletas demonstram maior percepcao dolorosa e menor equilibrio postural estatico quando comparadas a controles nao atletas. Entretanto, possuem maior habilidade para reestabelecer o controle postural. Alem disso, a presenca da percepcao dolorosa mostrou uma fraca relacao, porem significativa com o controle postural em atletas de elite de GR.
