Le Centre d'études franco-canadiennes de l'Ouest (CEFCO)Annette SAINT-PIERRE co-fondatrice du centre d'études franco-canadiennes de l'ouest (cefco) Première présidente du Bureau de direction du CEFCO Au début du mois de juin 1975, Robert Painchaud, professeur d'histoire à l'Université de Winnipeg, et Annette Saint-Pierre, professeur de lettres canadiennes-françaises au Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface, conçoivent l'idée d'un centre de documentation française audit Collège 1 .À la suite de visites au Centre de recherche en civilisation canadiennefrançaise [CRCCF] à l'Université d'Ottawa, il leur paraissait urgent de doter l'Ouest canadien d'un centre qui desservirait les Canadiens français des provinces de l'Ouest.La demande de création d'un tel organisme fut adressée à la direction du Collège.Le projet fut accueilli avec beaucoup d'intérêt, comme le prouve un passage d'une lettre [envoyée à Annette Saint-Pierre] du recteur intérimaire, Georges Damphousse, en date du 24 juin 1975: Après en avoir discuté de nouveau avec le doyen, M. Fillion, il semble qu'il serait très opportun que vous fassiez parvenir, dans le plus bref délai, autant d'informations qu'il vous sera possible de donner sur l'organisation et le fonctionnement du centre, puisque vous êtes sur les lieux à l'Université d'Ottawa où il existe un centre de documentation.
