Leadership-as-Practice: Prospective Avenues for Leadership Theory and Research

Abstract
This symposium provides a promising new perspective for leadership theory and research by building on and developing the nascent leadership-as-practice stream of research. It brings together a group of international, young scholars who have conducted innovative, longitudinal (mostly ethnographic) research at the intersection of leadership, strategy, and change. The overarching theme in the presentations is a focus on how leadership is done in situ. In the realm of the evolving leadership-as-practice field, the symposium addresses important new issues such as the situated, dialectic, and dynamic nature of leadership as well as a focus on discursive and material resources to do leadership. The five presentations are followed by a summary and an outline of a future research agenda for leadership theory and research from a practice perspective.Who is the Strategist?
