Archaeological Investigations in the Harbours of Burgaz, Turkey: 2011-2015 field seasons

Abstract
Between 2011 and 2015 archaeological fieldwork was conducted in the Archaic through Late Antique harbours associated with Burgaz on the Datça Peninsula in south-west Turkey. This work focused on survey and documentation of built features associated with the four harbours, limited stratigraphic excavation, and identification of shipwrecks and seafaring activity outside the harbours. The results offer new insights into the growth, expansion, and eventual abandonment of the port complex, its development alongside the urban settlement, and its changing maritime dynamics in light of economic shifts across the peninsula and the eastern Mediterranean. Investigaciones arqueológicas en los puertos de Burgaz, Turquía: temporadas de campo 2011–2015 Entre los años 2011 y 2015 se llevó a cabo trabajo de campo en los puertos del arcaico a la antigüedad tardía asociados con Burgaz en la península de Datça en el sudoeste de Turquía. Este trabajo se enfocó en la prospección y documentación de rasgos arquitectónicos asociados con los cuatro puertos; en excavaciones estratigráficas limitadas y en la identificación de naufragios y actividad naval fuera de los puertos. Los resultados ofrecen nuevos conocimientos acerca del crecimiento, expansión y eventual abandono del complejo portuario; su desarrollo aparejado a los asentamientos urbanos y la variación de sus dinámicas marítimas a la luz de cambios económicos a lo largo de la península y el Mediterráneo oriental.
