Gaius Sallustius Crispus’un Bellum Iugurthinum Adlı Eseri Üzerine Değerlendirmeler

Abstract
MÖ I. yüzyılda yaşamış olan C. Sallustius Crispus bilimsel tarihçiliği ve eserlerinin felsefi derinlik taşıması bakımından önemli bir tarih yazarıdır. Bu çalışmanın amacı Sallustius’un Bellum Iugurthinum adlı eserini ele almak ve tarih yazıcılığına sağladığı katkıları incelemektir. Çalışmamızda öncelikle yazarın kamu görevlerini belirlemeye çalıştık. Daha sonra Sallustius’un yetiştiği ortamı, yaşadığı dönemin siyasi, ahlaki, ekonomik ve kültürel yönlerini ele almaya çalıştık. Eserin konusu MÖ 111-105 yılları arasında Romalılar ile Afrika’nın kuzeyinde yer alan Numidia kralı Iugurtha arasında yapılan savaştır. Monografi türünde yazılmış olan bu eserde Sallustius’un yaşadığı çekişmeli ortamın eserine nasıl şekil verdiğini incelemeye çalıştık. Sallustius, Bellum Iugurthinum adlı eserinde Roma’da ahlak seviyesinin nasıl bozulduğunu, Roma’nın eski değerlerinin nasıl kaybolduğunu anlatmıştır. Özellikle Roma’daki yöneticilerin para ve yetki için her şeyi yapabileceklerini gözler önüne sermiştir. Eser ahlaki açıdan derin bir ciddiyetle olayları yansıtmaktadır ve yazar bunu asla yapmacık bir tavırla ortaya koymamıştır. C. Sallustius Crispus Bellum Iugurthinum’da Roma’daki siyasi gelişmelerin iç yüzünün anlaşılmasını sağlamıştır.
