This bulletin describes the architecture and Grenvillian and pre-Grenvillian tectono-magmatic evolution of the Central Metasedimentary Belt in Quebec (Grenville Province). It provides detailed information on a variety of Mesoproterozoic geological and metallogenic contexts and evolutionary processes including hydrothermal alteration, magma emplacement, metamorphism, and deformation. The study area comprises two main metasedimentary domains dominated respectively by marble and quartzite. These overlie a series of granulite-facies gneiss complexes, including the 1.4 Ga volcanoplutonic Bondy gneiss complex, an island-arc component built on a thin Laurentian margin The complex hosts a metamorphosed cupriferous hydrothermal system. The components of the Central Metasedimentary Belt were metamorphosed at 1.2 Ga. The vertically layered mafic intrusions and the mafic to felsic sheets of the Chevreuil intrusive suite (1.17-1.16 Ga) intrude the gneiss units. These intrusions contain local nickel-copper mineralization and were emplaced within deformation zones that are interpreted to be faults that acted as magma conduits during reactivation of deformation following peak metamorphism. The Kensington-Skootamatta potassic alkaline suite (1.09-1.07 Ga) consists of ultramafic to felsic nested plutons and lamprophyres that record magma ascent by fracture propagation along dykes and entrapment by marble to form plutons. In the Rivard dyke, repeated delamination of wall rock during magma ascent resulted in the incorporation of xenoliths that reveal the nature and composition of the lithosphere at 1.07 Ga. The integration of xenolith, surface geology, and seismic data provides 4D mapping elements that are used to propose an evolutionary model of the Central Metasedimentary Belt in Quebec.
