Latin Americans' Perceptions of Their Secondary School Education in Montreal

Abstract
The study explored the perceptions of adult Latin Americans on their secondary school experiences in the city of Montreal. Data were collected from interviews and from my own reflective notes. Constant comparative analysis revealed that the development of a hybrid identity helped to anchor participants during the process of integration into Quebec. Moreover, despite Quebec's implementation of various programs that facilitate the integration of immigrants, most participants felt a strong identification with Canada instead of with Quebec. Data suggested that Quebec authorities overlook the different factors that shape the identity formation of young Latin American immigrants, and more importantly, the implications of a stronger association with Canada over Quebec.
